The plaque posted on the front of the Aylen house.
The exit point of the Timber Slide entrance is also easily overlooked, although what is left of a metal flume marks the spot where the once great slide emptied into the river.
Dwyer Hill Cemetery is little more of a collection of stone cairns, thirty-five in all, loosely scattered through a densely-wooded area roughly the size of a football field. Each grave is marked by a yellow ribbon.
It has been referred to as the oldest cemetery in eastern Ontario. Although no records exist as to when it began, it's estimated that it was in use between the early 1800s and 1867 when the Dwyer Hill settlement was abandoned.
The cemetery is difficult to reach, and is accessible only on foot. It is a lonely place. Not surprisingly, it is also said to be haunted.
